Martijn Bouwknegt is Research Manager at Vion since 2016. He holds an MSc and PhD degree in Animal Science from Wageningen University. He has over 20 years of experience in applied science in the fields of veterinary epidemiology, quantitative risk assessment and carbon footprint assessment. After working at the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment for 15 years as scientist, he joined Vion Food Group in his current role. His research focuses amongst others on the carbon footprint calculations of meat using life cycle assessment and primary data from farms. The insights from his research are put into practice in detailing management options to reduce the carbon footprint of meat further.
