Thanawat Tiensin was appointed as Director of Animal Production and Health Division (NSA) at Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome, Italy in 2022. He also serves as an acting Director at the Joint FAO/IAEA Center of Nuclear Techniques in Food and Agriculture in Vienna, Austria.
From 2018 to 2022, Mr Tiensin had been serving as Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Rome-based Agencies (FAO/IFAD/WFP) in Rome, Italy. Additionally, he also served in several FAO Governing Bodies and Committees such as Chairperson of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS), Chairperson of the Global Soil Partnership (GSP), Chairperson of Asia Regional Group, Vice Chairperson of the FAO Conference and FAO Council, Vice Chairperson of the Committee of Agriculture (COAG), Advisory Committee on the UN Food Systems Summit, etc.
Mr Tiensin, a national of Thailand, holds a Doctor of Philosophy and a Master of Sciences in Veterinary Epidemiology and Economics from Utrecht University in the Netherlands, as well as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Kasetsart University in Thailand.
